
In Fear of Rain, teenager Rain Burroughs struggles with Schizophrenia. She hears voices, sees images and feels emotions, not knowing which of them are true. But, when she begins to hear cries from the neighbor’s attic, she decides to do something about it, come schizophrenia or not. To help her, she recruits an awkward boy from her school. But, she doesn’t know if this boy is real or not either. A fantastic horror thriller with great performances by Madison Iseman as Rain and Katherine Heigl as Rain’s mother. If you like Fear of Rain, you will love any of these other movies like Fear of Rain.

1 A Beautiful Mind (2001)
Russell Crowe brilliantly portrays John Nash, a young prodigious mathematician who later in his life struggles with severe schizophrenia. John is asocial but unbelievably adept and creative at mathematics. As he tries to make a name in the field, he is enlisted to work for the government, to help with cryptography.
Unfortunately, this is where he begins to hallucinate. Caught up with conspiracies with and imaginary FBI agent and roommate, John struggles with family, social and his professional life. Ed Harris as the imaginary secret FBI agent and Jennifer Connelly as John’s very real wife are brilliant.
This isn’t a horror. But, it does let you get a perspective of how hallucinations can wreck the minds of even one of the most brilliant mathematicians to have ever lived.
2 What Lies Beneath (2000)
In What Lies Beneath, Claire (Michelle Pfeiffer) begins to hear voices while in her scenic lakeside home. Norman, her husband (Harrison Ford) convinces Claire to see a therapist. When Claire tells her therapist that she persistently sees a woman’s reflection in the lake, the therapist encourages her to make contact. What lies beneath will have you jumping out of your seats.
If you are a fan of psychological thrillers, this one is a must watch. Brilliant direction and cinematography to boot.
3 Silver Linings Playbook (2012)
Pat Solatano Jr. (Bradley Cooper) has just completed a court ordered mental institution stint. Back home with his parents, Pat Solatano Sr. (Robert De Niro) and Dolores Solitano (Jacki Weaver), Pat Jr. skips on prescribed medication as it doesn’t let him feel good.
Instead, he believes healthy living and simply looking for silver linings will put him back on track with a normal life. That’s when he meets Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence), a mysterious girl with her own set of mental issues.
A strange couple meeting under strange circumstances. Yet, it works and works beautifully. One of the most celebrated movies of 2012. You will love it if you can relate to mental health issues and if you are also a sucker for romantics.
4 Disturbia (2007)
How is Disturbia similar to Fear of Rain? Just like in Fear of Rain, a teenager in Disturbia is convinced that his neighbor is a secret serial killer. Shia LaBeouf plays a house-arrested teen who has a lot of time on his hands. So, he spies on his neighbor. One night, he witnesses what he surely thinks is a murder. Then, when he tries to really get to the bottom of it, his own life is in danger.
A typical American thriller that hits all the right notes.
5 Black Swan (2010)
Black Swan is another brilliant psychological thriller on our list of movies like Fear of Rain. Nina (Natalie Portman) is the front runner for the Prima Ballerina position in a sought after ballet company’s new production. But, to land the role, she must both play a white and black swan. Nina is a natural as an innocent white swan. But, she has a strong competitor in Lily (Mila Kunis) who is sensuous and mysterious as a black swan.
Nina explores her dark side to be able to play the black swan. But, in doing so, she unleashes a dangerous conflict of personalities within herself . A mentally stimulating thriller beautifully weaved into a story about ballet. One of the most acclaimed movies of 2010.
6 Lakeview Terrace (2008)
Lakeview Terrace is similar to Fear of Rain in the sense that it is revolves around a terrifying neighbor. LAPD officer Abel Turner (Samuel L. Jackson) is peeved by an interracial couple moving in next door, in the gated community he and his kids live in. The movie slowly develops into a taut thriller as Abel makes their new neighbors’ life more and more uncomfortable.
The climax descends into a full-fledged action thriller drama, complete with a raging forest fire. A great watch. Samuel L. Jackson is brilliant as the psychotic and unpredictable neighbor. Patrick Wilson and Kerry Washington fit right into the roles of the unsuspecting couple who move in. Nothing is given away in the movie and you will have to wait till the very end to let this thriller sink in.
