This is a Sci-Fi movie but don’t let that turn you off. After all, you need some Sci-Fi to introduce the concept of metaphysical existence. It’s still very emotional, thought provoking and very deeply meaningful. This is a movie about love that spans both time and space, across two different worlds. Despite being so apart, the two share an unmistakable connection. The plot can be a little complex to understand. But, we believe that’s a compliment for an emotional movie. It is after all what you make of it.
Hugh Jackman sizzles in this rather uncharacteristic role for him. Weisz of course is in her emotive element in this movie. A thoroughly entertaining watch and the first suggestion on our list of movies like Nine Lives.
2 Cloud Atlas (2012)

This is another Sci-Fi movie directed by the Wachowski brothers. It’s a movie that explores the possibility of reincarnation, across no less than 6 different time periods. Despite that complex premise for a plot, the movie gels together really well, letting you slowly transition in and out of characters and timelines, much like you might have done while watching Nine Lives. From 1849 all the way to the year 2321, this is a brilliant movie with amazing performances by Tom Hanks, Halle Berry and Hugh Grant.
Tom Hanks lives on a big Hawaiian island while Halle Berry plays a journalist in the 70’s. Hugh Grant has multiple roles, as a plantation worker, as a hotel employee and as the proprietor of a nuclear power plant and the list isn’t quite done with him yet.
Though this may all sound terribly confusing, you will enjoy it if you give it a chance. The movie’s 7.4 rating at IMDB is a testament to that, after more than 350k ratings being cast on it.
3 Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was one of Jim Carrey’s forays into non-comedic roles. And, it was an epic hit. The movie is about love and memories. More specifically, it’s about how hurtful memories about love that can’t be continued can be wiped away with a scientific procedure. As the characters of both Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet decide to forget each other, they experience a transcendence of the magical love that could have been.
With almost 1 Million 8+ ratings at IMDB, this movie will deeply connect for you, especially if you lost a love once, like almost all of us have.

A group of seemingly random people are all connected by a larger plan, unknown to them. It might be just fate that decides the lives of us all. Featuring an array of stars in vividly different roles, this movie definitely has a lot in common with how the various characters in Nine Days were so different from one another.
Despite the rather chaotic and random relatedness, it all comes together as the result of much larger plan at play.

The movie is thought provoking in the sense that it will make you wonder if you really need another human to have a strong and meaningful connection in your life.
It’s definitely not a mainstream movie. But, if you liked Nine Days, that probably makes this Indie movie very appealing on our list of films like Nine Days.

The last movie on our list, but can easily be the first! Will Ferrell’s character suddenly begins to hear a narration, about his own life. His life is being narrated to him, as if he is the lead character in a book.
The voice gives his character a whole new perspective on life. The movie is set against the backdrop of his role as an I.R.S auditor, with boring co-workers in an unanimated or lifeless office environment. It’s a surreal comedic type of movie and Will Ferrell delivers a sophisticated and subtle acting performance. It’s a movie that will make you smile, ponder about life and maybe explore a new perspective and vision.
